Isaiah 5:3-6 (KJV)
3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.
4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?
5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; and break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:
6 And I will lay it waste: it shall not be pruned, nor digged; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

Psalms 11:3 (KJV)
3 If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

Proverbs 14:34 (KJV)
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people.

Proverbs 29:2 (KJV)
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

A GREAT COUNTRY ONLY EXIST BECAUSE OF A GREAT CHURCH

Text:  Isaiah 5:4-6  Ps 11:3

Introduction:

  1. Over the past many years there has been a secularization of the church.  The word secular means – without God.

  2. This has brought on the destruction of righteousness in our country and our churches.

  3. As the church goes, so goes the country.  You see the country only has what is being produces by our schools, colleges, and churches.   Therefore we are in a terrible mess in America.

  4. The Devil has been busy disrupting the things of God because of the things of government.

  5. We are not to be anti-government for God ordained Government to manage the things of society.   Romans 13:1-7

  6. Whether the powers that be today like it or not this country was established on the principles of God’s Word.  Therefore the Devil has hated this country from its inception.

I.   THE DESTRUCTION OF RELIGIOUS FOUNDATION

  1. The Supreme Court building has many sculptures and monuments showing the commandments and Moses.

  2. The early institutions of higher education in this country were connected with churches.

    1. Harvard

Harvard--In 1892, Baedeker's guidebook called Harvard "the oldest, richest, and most famous of American seats of learning.".[10] Harvard was founded in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, making it the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. The college was named in 1639 for its first benefactor, British-born John Harvard of Charlestown, a young minister who, upon his death in 1638, left his library and half his estate to the new institution. The charter creating the corporation of Harvard College was signed by Massachusetts Governor Thomas Dudley in 1650. In the early years, the College trained many Puritan ministers.[11]
During its early years, the College offered a classic academic course based on the English university model but consistent with the prevailing Puritan philosophy of the first colonists in New England. The College was never affiliated with any particular denomination, but many of its earliest graduates went on to become clergymen in Puritan churches throughout New England.[12] An early brochure, published in 1643, justified the College's existence: "To advance Learning and perpetuate it to Posterity; dreading to leave an illiterate Ministery [sic] to the Churches…"[13] Harvard's early motto was Veritas Christo et Ecclesiae "Truth for Christ and the Church." In a directive to its students, it laid out the purpose of all education: "Let every Student be plainly instructed, and earnestly pressed to consider well, the maine end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ which is eternall life, Joh. 17. 3. and therefore to lay Christ in the bottome, as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and Learning.[14]

    1. Yale--Yale traces its beginnings to "An Act for Liberty to Erect a Collegiate School," passed by the General Court of the Colony of Connecticut on October 9, 1701 in an effort to create an institution to train ministers and lay leadership for Connecticut. Soon thereafter, a group of ten Congregationalist ministers: Samuel Andrew, Thomas Buckingham, Israel Chauncy, Samuel Mather, James Noyes, James Pierpont, Abraham Pierson, Noadiah Russel, Joseph Webb and Timothy Woodbridge, all of whom were alumni of Harvard, met in the study of Reverend Samuel Russell in Branford, Connecticut, to pool their books to form the school's first library.[12] The group, led by James Pierpont, is now known as "The Founders."

    2. Many other institutions were a result of church influence.  Now today they are the breeding ground for modernism, liberalism and hatred for religion of any kind.

  1. With the seed of righteousness planted early in our country there was also the seed of destruction.

About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say.
"A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government."

"A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury."

"From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from thepublic treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years."

"During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:
a. from bondage to spiritual faith;
b. from spiritual faith to great courage;
c. courage to liberty;
d. from liberty to abundance;
e. from abundance to complacency;
f. from complacency to apathy;
g. from apathy to dependence;
h. From dependence back into bondage"

  1. With the foundation of a great nation laid and influenced by the Providence of God was also the flaws of humanity and humanism waiting to manifest itself.  It took some time but we are seeing it happen before our eyes.

  2. There has been an ongoing attack on the fundamentals of our faith for over 100 years and we are seeing the results of this attack in our everyday life now.

    1. 1918 -- Harry Emerson Fosdick (1868-1969), pastor of the influential Riverside Church in New York City, published The Manhood of the Master, denying that Jesus Christ is God.

    2. Karl Barth published his 1st commentary book on Romans denying the bodily resurrection of Christ and the 2nd Coming.

    3. 1924 -- The Methodist Episcopal Church approved the ordination of female pastors.

    4. 1925 -- The Scopes “Monkey” Trial was held in Dayton, Tennessee, and Bible-believing Christians were made a laughing stock by the mainstream news media.

    5. 1926 -- After a debate lasting almost five hours, the Northern Baptist Convention voted by a margin of about three to one not to evict Riverside Church of New York City from its membership for the rank modernism of Pastor Harry Emerson Fosdick.

    6. 1930 -- The Presbyterian Church in America approved the ordination of women as elders.

    7. 1935 -- George A. Buttrick, Presbyterian pastor wrote:  “Literal infallibility of Scripture is a fortress impossible to defend. ... Probably few people who claim to ‘believe every word of the Bible’ really mean it.  That avowal held to its last logic would risk a trip to the insane asylum” (Christian Fact and Modern Doubt, p. 162).

    8. 1945 -- Harry Emerson Fosdick, in a letter written in January 1945 to an inquiring individual from Peru, Indiana, said, “Of course I do not believe in the virgin birth or in that old-fashioned substitutionary doctrine of the atonement, and I know of no intelligent person who does”

    9. 1954 -- The rock & roll era was born when Sun Records in Memphis recorded Elvis Presley’s single “That’s All Right, Mama.” From its inception, rock music has promoted rebellion against the morality of the Bible. Fifties rock literally changed the character of Western society and laid the groundwork for the dramatic spiritual and moral revolution that has followed. It also paved the way for “rock & roll Christianity”

    10. 1961 -- Michael Ramsey, Archbishop of Canterbury, said, “Heaven is not a place for Christians only ... I expect to see some present-day atheists there” (The Daily Mail, Oct. 2, 1961).

    11. Late 60’s--Troy Perry founded the Metropolitan Community Church in Los Angeles, which became the mother church of the first predominantly homosexual Christian denomination. By 1988 it claimed 38,000 members in 200 congregations worldwide.

    12. 1971--At New York City’s Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church a minister baptized a baby “in the name of the Father, the Holy Ghost, and Jesus Christ Superstar,” a reference to the blasphemous musical that depicted the Lord Jesus as a common sinner (“The New Rebel Cry: Jesus Is Coming!” Time, June 21, 1971).

    13. 1976 -- Harold Lindsell testified: “It is not unfair to allege that among denominations like Episcopal, United Methodist, United Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, the Lutheran Church in America, and the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. there is not a single theological seminary that takes a stand in favor of biblical infallibility. And there is not a single seminary where there are not faculty members who disavow one or more of the major teachings of the Christian faith” (Lindsell, The Battle for the Bible).

    14. 1976 -- Harold Lindsell testified: “It is not unfair to allege that among denominations like Episcopal, United Methodist, United Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, the Lutheran Church in America, and the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. there is not a single theological seminary that takes a stand in favor of biblical infallibility. And there is not a single seminary where there are not faculty members who disavow one or more of the major teachings of the Christian faith” (Lindsell, The Battle for the Bible).

    15. 1977 -- Anne Holmes of the United Church of Christ became the first openly lesbian woman ordained by a mainline Protestant denomination. Later in the year, Ellen Barrett became the first openly homosexual priest to be ordained in the Episcopal Church. She said that her relationship with her lesbian lover “is what feeds the strength and compassion I bring to the ministry” (“The Lesbian Priest,” Time magazine, January 24, 1977).

    16. 1981 -- Robert Bratcher, translator of the Today’s English Version, said, “Only willful ignorance or intellectual dishonesty can account for the claim that the Bible is inerrant and infallible. ... No truth-loving, God-respecting, Christ-honoring believer should be guilty of such heresy. To invest the Bible with the qualities of inerrancy and infallibility is to idolatrize it, to transform it into a false god” (The Baptist Courier, Greenville, SC, April 2, 1981).

    17. 1991 -- In his book Rescuing the Bible from Fundamentalism, Bishop John Spong of the Episcopal Church in America said, “Of course these [Bible] narratives are not literally true. Stars do not wander, angels do not sing, virgins do not give birth, magi do not travel to a distant land to present gifts to a baby, and shepherds do not go in search of a newborn savior.”

    18. 2004-The Feb. 27 edition of the Lariat, the school paper at Baylor University, a large Baptist institution, featured an editorial defending homosexual marriage.

II.      THE DEMONIZING OF GOD AND CHRISTIANITY

A.        Evolution:

  1. As mention earlier, in 1925 there was a famous trail concerning evolution.  The outcome changed the entire philosophy of mankind in the U.S.

  2. The teaching of evolution does away with a God in heaven that watches over us

  3. Man is nothing more than an animal with no spiritual life

  4. When he dies he is just dead.

  5. Evolution is the single most deadly teaching in our society.  In just over 80 years it has overtaken all public institutions and many religious ones.

B.        Endless attacks on God in our society

  1. 1963—Bible reading, prayer banned in public schools

    1. Started as a ban during opening of day

    2. Now there is continual controversy over prayer and even calling the name God at sporting events, graduations and any school gathering.

  2. January 22, 1973  Abortion becomes legal.  Attack on God as the giver and taker of life.

  3. Movements to remove “In God We Trust” from money

  4. 2002 and Sept. 15, 2005 “Under God” in our pledge has been ruled unconstitutional by the 9th circuit court.

  5. April 15, 2010-Judge Barbara Crab April 15 that the law specifying the annual establishment of a national day of prayer, "goes beyond 'mere' acknowledgement of religion because it's sole purpose is to encourage all citizens to engage in prayer, an inherently religious exercise that serves no secular function."

    As you know, the 2010 National Day of Prayer is scheduled in May. Certainly people of faith do not need a Presidential proclamation in order to pray, however this speaks much about the forces that seek to destroy this country from within.

    Traditionally, our country has turned to national prayer in times of difficulty, as lately as September 11, 2001. At a time when our country is facing difficulties on many fronts, one would hope we would have the wisdom to once again turn to a national expression of prayer.

Patrick Henry once said, "When people forget God, tyrants forge their chains."

  1. April 21, 2010 Franklin Graham booted from praying at the Pentagon during national day of  prayer

  2. April 21, 2010—A group of students are opposing the words “In the year of our Lord” on their diplomas from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX.

  2. Practice His Presence—He will never leave us  Heb 13:5

  4. Proclaim His Praises  Ps. 34:1

D.        Unchanging God

  1. Message has not changed

  2. Meaning has not changed

  3. Mission has not changed

  4. Might has not changed

  5. Mercy has not changed

  6. Master has not changed
